Tom Flaherty is a founding member of the law firm of Flaherty Sensabaugh Bonasso PLLC with offices in Charleston, Morgantown, Wheeling, Clarksburg and Lexington, Kentucky. He is a 1971 graduate of the WVU College of Business and Economics and received his law degree from the College of Law in 1974. During undergraduate school he was the president of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and was subsequently named an honorary member of Mountain, WVU’s ranking honorary. During the course of his legal career he has represented multiple Fortune 100 companies, three West Virginia governors and four separate members of the West Virginia Supreme Court.
He has been named among The Best Lawyers in America for over 25 straight years, longer than any other West Virginia personal injury defense attorney. Thomson Reuters Super Lawyers has listed him as one of the top three lawyers in West Virginia every year since the inception of the publication and ranked him the number one lawyer in West Virginia from 2009 through 2018.
Mr. Flaherty is the former president of both the West Virginia State Bar and the Kanawha County Bar Association. He was a founding member of the West Virginia Defense Trial Counsel. He is the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Brickstreet Mutual Insurance Company and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Encova Insurance. Among his multiple services to the community he has co-chaired the Campaign for Legal Aid in West Virginia as well as the Capital Campaign for the The Ronald McDonald House.
He was a gubernatorial
appointment to the WVU Board of Governors from 2009 to 2019 and served as
Chairman of the WVU Board of Governors from 2015 to 2017.
