Awards and Scholarships

Each year, the WVU Alumni Association recognizes alumni, volunteers and students who have accomplished successes in the community, in their professions and in the classroom.

The WVU Academy of Distinguished Alumni recognizes graduates who have attained national and international recognition in their professions and community.

Our chapter leaders and members devote countless hours to furthering the mission of West Virginia University. To recognize their wonderful service to our alma mater, community, students and fellow graduates, the Alumni Association selects recipients for our service awards and honors them during Homecoming in the fall.

For more than 70 years, the Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund has been providing financial assistance to deserving West Virginia students who want to attend WVU. More than 4,000 students have realized their dreams through these scholarships. The LPEF is the oldest scholarship program at WVU. Additionally, children of alumni can have an opportunity to receive a Legacy scholarship during their first year on campus.

The WVU Alumni Association is also pleased to recognize an outstanding alumna/us and parade marshal each year as we celebrate Homecoming. Throughout our history, graduates such as legendary coach, the late Fred Schaus, General Robert “Doc” Foglesong and WVU’s first Homecoming queen, Mary Lou Bullard Moore have participated in the Homecoming parade.
