The Year 2018 in Review

As students head to their last classes and prepare for final exams, we celebrate the close of another great semester at West Virginia University! The last four months have been busy for us with an exciting football season, a trailer tour that took us halfway across the country, a very successful Day of Service where our alumni volunteered in their local communities, and most recently, a monumental Day of Giving. Thank you for your support in making this season an exciting adventure!

This year, we teamed up with the University and the State to help West Virginia solve some of its most challenging problems by launching the Mountaineer Alliance, a business-to-business network. Harnessing the knowledge, skills, wisdom, talents, and treasure of our business professionals, the Alliance can be a powerful force in helping our state.

One of our most prominent alumni and successful business leaders, John Chambers, former CISCO CEO and Chairman, jumped on board this fall. John believes a successful future for West Virginia is tied to our ability to support entrepreneurs and new business startups. In his announcement, John summed up his vision:

“I’ve always believed in the power of education, but we need to reinvent our schools for a new, digital era. I’m betting on the Mountaineers and believe my home state can become a startup state if the university, business and public sectors come together to support transformative innovation.”

Our role in the Mountaineer Alliance is helping to find alumni who wish to participate in growing economic prosperity for West Virginia. We’re looking for business leaders to invest their time and talents in helping to mentor and advise new entrepreneurs as well as those who wish to invest their treasure in the startup engine.

As we close out 2018, please accept our sincere appreciation for your support of our Alumni Association, our University, and our State. I wish you a fantastic holiday season and Happy New Year!

Let’s Go!
