From Down the Hall

As we welcome 2025 and a new semester begins in Morgantown, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the past year and set intentions for the year ahead. I like to start my year by mapping out my personal and professional goals and aspirations. Whether it’s focusing on career advancement, improving health and wellness, or deepening connections with others, the turn of the calendar provides a natural opportunity to reset and refocus.

As 2024 draws to a close, we celebrate the extraordinary achievements and enduring spirit of the Mountaineer community. In this second installment of our gratitude series, we continue to reflect on the collaboration, innovation, and perseverance that define our alma mater. From groundbreaking research to transformative philanthropy and the shared pride of cheering for the Old Gold and Blue, Mountaineers everywhere continue to inspire.

It’s hard to believe it’s November already! As we enter the final months of the year and gather with family and friends to reflect on all we’re grateful for, I find myself inspired by the strength and spirit the Mountaineer alumni community has shown us this year. There have been countless memorable moments—gatherings rich with tradition, camaraderie, and the unmistakable pride of being a Mountaineer. From welcoming a new class of Mountaineer alumni to flying the Let’s Go flag proudly this summer, to game-day celebrations, Homecoming reunions, and milestone achievements, each event has reminded us of all we accomplish together. These connections and the memories we create side-by-side fill us with gratitude, and we look forward to many more moments to celebrate what it truly means to be part of this remarkable community. I am continually grateful for how this community has shaped me and my Mountaineer journey.

October is here and as we approach the 2024 Homecoming celebration, the anticipation and excitement fills the air, reminding us of the deep connections we've formed through our shared experiences. This is a time to reflect on the journey we've taken, from our first days on campus to the present. Each reunion not only strengthens our bonds but also celebrates the vibrant spirit of the Mountaineer community.

It’s hard to believe it’s already time for another edition of From Down the Hall. August flew by, but it was a fantastic month! We kicked things off by welcoming students back to campus during Welcome Week, bringing that familiar buzz of energy as students settled in for the semester. 

As summer officially settles into Morgantown, I find myself reflecting on the transitions that mark this time of year. The end of the spring semester has given way to the beginning of summer, a season filled with new opportunities and fresh starts. Just a few weeks ago, we witnessed the celebration of Commencement, where over 3,000 students crossed the stage to become proud WVU alumni. Seeing so many hopeful faces ready to embark on their next adventures filled me with immense pride, especially as I watched my daughter Alison join the ranks of our alumni family.

It’s hard to believe, but we’ve already reached the end of another academic year. As students move out and others prepare for this weekend’s Commencement ceremony, we’re also reaching the end of our 150th anniversary celebration of the WVU Alumni Association. Not only has it been a milestone year for the Association, it marks an especially meaningful moment for my family as we celebrate my daughter, Alison, who will be graduating in a few short days.
