From Down the Hall: July 2024

|

We are in the full swing of summer and our team and the Alumni Truck are hitting the road to take part in the Mountaineer camaraderie happening around the state and across the country. Summer is a busy time for the WVU Alumni Association as we support chapter signature events like the Low Country Mountaineers BBQ Bash, Boone County Alumni and Friends Pig Roast and the National Capital Area Chapter Crab Feast, just to name a few. This year, we are also excited to join our West Virginia University colleagues as they travel the country roads around the state to proudly fly the Let’s Go flag. So far we’ve been to Martinsburg, Williamson, Harpers Ferry and Charleston and we are just getting started. Upcoming stops include Summersville, Wheeling and Parkersburg.

Our summer tour has been nothing short of spectacular, visiting the most beautiful and iconic spots in our state and meeting alumni from every corner of our vast community. From the scenic hills to busy cities, each event is a testament to the spirit of WVU, showcasing the strength and unity of our alumni base.

Two alumni events on the horizon will raise money for student scholarships allowing others to pass on the legacy of a WVU education — the Boone County Pig Roast and Music Frolic and the Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund (LPEF) Golf Tournament.

This weekend, we are heading to Water Ways Amphitheater in Boone County for the second longest running chapter signature event. This cherished tradition for many West Virginians brings together alumni, fans, students and friends of WVU for a day of food, fun and music, all with the shared goal of supporting student success. It is a perfect demonstration of how our alumni continue to make it possible for others to experience the transformative power of pursuing a WVU degree. An example of the impact our groups can have, the Boone County Chapter has recently awarded more than $40,000 in scholarships for students during the 2024-25 academic year. A truly remarkable accomplishment!

Later this month, we are heading to Parkersburg to join President Gee for a summer tour stop and to take part in the annual LPEF Golf Tournament, the second longest continually running tournament in the state. Beyond an incredible day of Mountaineer spirit on the links, the event supports a very important cause. Money raised benefits the LPEF whose mission has remained unchanged for more than 80 years — to help West Virginia residents fund their course of study at WVU. The endowment plays a crucial role in providing scholarships to deserving students, ensuring that future generations of Mountaineers have the opportunity to fulfill their dreams and succeed in their chosen endeavors.

We hope you will join us at a chapter signature event, summer tour stop or a summer send off in your area. As we look to the future, we are filled with excitement and anticipation for what’s to come this fall. WVU is our state’s flagship university, and the legacy we are building together is a testament to the strength and resilience of our community. Each moment we share, whether it’s at an event, or through the stories and pictures you send, adds to our collective Mountaineer experience.

Together we are creating moments that matter and shaping a future that is bright and full of promise. Let’s continue to Go First, to lead with passion and to proudly wave our Let’s Go flag wherever our journey takes us. Share your Mountaineer adventures with us and you might receive your own Let’s Go flag! If you’re already flying the flag, send us your pictures and stories and tag us on social media. Let’s celebrate together the incredible community that is being a Mountaineer alum!

Let’s Go!
