From Down the Hall: August 2024

|

As the summer comes to a close and the fall semester is on the horizon, I am excited to welcome our students, faculty, and staff back to campus for another academic year. There's an energy in the air as we prepare to greet our newest class and kick off a series of events that make their return to Morgantown truly special.

While summer always seems to fly by, we’ve made the most of it by taking part in Alumni chapter events across the country and the state. These gatherings have allowed us to stay connected with our alumni community, no matter where they are. From coast to coast, and around the state of West Virginia, our chapters have been bringing together Mountaineers to celebrate our shared heritage and forge new connections. It's heartwarming to see the Flying WV in so many places.

These events are the foundation of the WVU experience, and this year promises to be unforgettable. We are eager to see our students dive into the myriad of activities designed to help them acclimate to campus life and build lasting connections. One of my favorite events is Monday Night Lights, where the incoming freshman class heads to Mountaineer Field to celebrate the spirit and traditions that define us. This event is not just a welcome; it's an introduction into a community that will support and uplift them throughout their lifetime.

Another highlight of our Welcome Week is Fall Fest, a night of music, food, and fun. It's a fantastic opportunity for new students to bond with their peers and for returning students to reunite after the summer break. The anticipation for this event is always high, and this year, we will once again have an exceptional lineup of performers and activities that will make Fall Fest a moment to remember.

And the start of the fall semester means it’s almost time for Mountaineer Football! There's nothing quite like the thrill of game day in Morgantown, where the sea of gold and blue comes alive. We hope you will consider joining us this season at our HAIL West Virginia tailgate at the Erickson Alumni Center. HAIL West Virginia is a premier event held three hours prior to every home football game just steps away from Milan Puskar Stadium. This year we are offering special mini packs alongside our season passes. We like to say it’s the most unique gameday experience on campus, and we are sure you will agree!

We are also eagerly anticipating the 28th Annual Marmaduke Dent Benefit, which kicks off the WVU vs. Penn State game weekend in style. This year’s event promises to be a tropical extravaganza at the Erickson Alumni Center, featuring Lloyd “Hurricane” Munn and the Forecasters. It's a chance for alumni and fans to gather, celebrate, and make memories that will last a lifetime. Be sure to secure your tickets soon, as they are selling quickly!

As we close out summer and gear up for the fall semester, I am filled with excitement and optimism. The return of our students breathes new life into our campus, and the events we have planned will ensure that this year get’s off to a fantastic start. I encourage all alumni to stay engaged, whether through attending events, supporting our students, or simply sharing your stories of unforgettable Mountaineer moments with us.

Thank you for being a part of the WVU family. Let's make this year one for the books!
