From Down the Hall: February 2025

|

Campus scenes taken on the downtown campus Monday, Feb. 3, 2025.

Awards season has arrived in Morgantown, and from now until May, we will celebrate the remarkable achievements of students, faculty, and alumni across our great University. The WVU Alumni Association is honored to kick off this season with one of the most prestigious recognitions a WVU graduate can receive—induction into the Academy of Distinguished Alumni. This award represents the highest level of distinction for graduates who have made a lasting impact in their fields and communities.

We are excited to welcome five new inductees at a special ceremony on Friday, Feb. 7, at the Erickson Alumni Center, followed by a recognition on the court at the WVU men’s basketball game on Saturday against Utah. It’s a moment to honor their achievements, share their inspiring stories, and celebrate the legacy of excellence that defines WVU.

The Academy celebration is always a special moment for our WVU family, as we come together to honor alumni whose dedication, leadership, and achievements inspire Mountaineers everywhere. This event is more than just a ceremony—it’s an opportunity to share incredible stories, reflect on the impact of a WVU education, and connect generations of Mountaineers who continue to make a difference. We can’t wait to welcome this year’s inductees back to Morgantown and celebrate their remarkable journeys!

This year's class features an outstanding group of alumni whose accomplishments span a variety of industries and disciplines. We are proud to welcome Linda Arnold, Luke Frazier, Diana Murphy, Dr. Sharon Burmeister Lord, and Dr. Laura Wood into the Academy of Distinguished Alumni. Their contributions to business, the arts, healthcare, and leadership exemplify the spirit of excellence that defines WVU graduates. I encourage you to read more about the incredible achievements and impact of this outstanding class.

The Academy of Distinguished Alumni induction is just one of the many ways WVU is celebrating excellence this spring. Across campus, schools and colleges honor outstanding graduates through their own alumni awards, while the Order of Vandalia recognizes extraordinary service to the University. Students are celebrated through distinctions like the Order of Augusta and WVU Foundation Outstanding Seniors, and faculty are recognized for their dedication to teaching, research, and mentorship. As the spring semester continues, we look forward to shining a spotlight on the many Mountaineers whose leadership, service, and achievements make a lasting impact on WVU and beyond.

As we move through this exciting season of recognition, we look forward to sharing the incredible stories of those who have shaped WVU’s legacy and continue to inspire future generations of Mountaineers.  Let’s go!
