As 2024 draws to a close, we celebrate the extraordinary achievements and enduring spirit of the Mountaineer community. In this second installment of our gratitude series, we continue to reflect on the collaboration, innovation, and perseverance that define our alma mater. From groundbreaking research to transformative philanthropy and the shared pride of cheering for the Old Gold and Blue, Mountaineers everywhere continue to inspire.

Their cutting-edge research into Alzheimer’s disease and addiction is transforming lives and elevating WVU's global reputation as a leader in tackling real-world challenges through bold, innovative solutions.

Spring brought Mountaineer pride to new heights with the WVU Day of Giving raising over $30 million, which set a record for generosity. Contributions from alumni, friends, and supporters bolstered scholarships, advanced groundbreaking research, and enriched student opportunities, ensuring a brighter future for the WVU community.

Spring also welcomed chapter leaders from across the country to Morgantown for three days of collaboration and forward-thinking strategy. These dedicated leaders shared ideas to enhance engagement with alumni in their regions and explored new ways to grow their chapters. During the Decide WVU event, they also served as inspiring ambassadors for WVU, connecting with prospective and incoming students and offering insights into the transformative power of their WVU journeys.

The summer was marked by incredible milestones, including the Boone County Alumni and Friends Chapter surpassing $1 million in scholarship funds raised to benefit WVU students. Through beloved events like the Boone County Pig Roast and Music Frolic and their other efforts, this chapter exemplified the transformative power of collective generosity. Back on campus, WVU announced record-breaking progress in first-year retention rates for the 2023-24 academic year, reflecting its dedication to student success through innovative programs and a welcoming environment.

As recently as last week, the WVU Mountaineer Marching Band captured national attention with their performance in the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Representing WVU on one of the world’s largest stages, the band brought their signature Mountaineer spirit to millions of viewers. This prestigious honor highlighted their exceptional talent and served as a unifying moment for the WVU community. Whether watching from the streets of Manhattan or the comfort of home, alumni, students and fans everywhere beamed with pride as the Pride of West Virginia ushered in the holiday season, performing just before Santa's grand arrival.A graduation cap is decorated and reads "Adventure is Out There"

As 2024 draws to a close, we will also welcome a new class of WVU alumni to the family during December Commencement. These graduates have demonstrated perseverance, adaptability, and a commitment to excellence, embodying the Mountaineer spirit as they prepare to leave their mark on the world. Surrounded by family, friends, and faculty, they join a network of more than 200,000 alumni who continue to uplift their alma mater and each other. Together, we celebrate their achievements and the promise they bring as they embark on their next chapter as proud WVU alumni.

This year’s accomplishments remind us of the shared pride, determination, and resilience that unite Mountaineers everywhere. As we look ahead to a new year filled with fresh opportunities to go first and new moments to celebrate, we will continue to honor the traditions that make WVU unique, while boldly stepping into the future with a sense of pride and purpose. Together, we will continue to make an impact, support one another, and carry the Mountaineer spirit forward into 2025 and beyond. Here's to another year of excellence, achievement, and the shared pride of being part of something truly special.
