From Down The Hall: March 2026

|

There’s something special about the way Mountaineers show up for each other.

You see it on game days in Morgantown, when alumni chapters gather in cities across the country, and when a Mountaineer reaches out to help another along the way.

That same spirit is at the heart of WVU Day of Giving, which returns March 25.

Each year, the day invites alumni, friends, students, and fans to come together in support of West Virginia University. For 24 hours, Mountaineer Nation rallies around the programs, scholarships, and experiences that make WVU special.

This year’s event, organized by the WVU Foundation, offers many opportunities to give back, and the WVU Alumni Association is proud to offer several ways for the WVU community to participate. I invite you to support the programs and traditions that keep Mountaineers connected long after graduation.

Chapter Scholarships

Think back to your time in Morgantown. Maybe a scholarship helped make college possible. Maybe a mentor, coach, or professor opened a door that helped shape your path. Maybe it was simply the community you found along the way.

For many Mountaineers, that kind of support can make all the difference. Alumni chapters across the country are raising money to help local students pursue their dream of a WVU education, creating opportunities for the next generation of WVU students.

To add a little friendly competition, the chapters that raise the most dollars and inspire the most gifts will also unlock special bonus funding to further support their scholarship efforts.

Membership

Becoming a member of the WVU Alumni Association is one of the simplest ways to stay connected to WVU while supporting the work that keeps Mountaineer Nation strong.

Membership helps sustain alumni programs, events, and communications that bring Mountaineers together throughout the year. It also strengthens the network of alumni chapters and volunteers who create opportunities for connection, celebration, and service in communities across the country.

Bricks, Pavers, and Benches

Commemorative bricks, pavers, and benches offer a meaningful way to leave a lasting mark in Morgantown. Located at the Erickson Alumni Center, these engraved pieces celebrate Mountaineer memories, honor loved ones, and recognize the lasting connection alumni share with WVU.

Each brick, paver, or bench helps support the Alumni Association while creating a permanent tribute to your Mountaineer journey.

CEO Endowment Fund

Strong leadership is essential to the continued success of the Alumni Association. The CEO Endowment Fund helps ensure stability and long-term vision by permanently supporting the organization’s chief executive position.

By funding this role in perpetuity, the Alumni Association can direct more resources toward alumni programming, chapter development, and engagement initiatives that strengthen connections among Mountaineers everywhere.

Hail West Virginia Game Day Experience

Game days in Morgantown begin long before kickoff. Hail West Virginia brings Mountaineers together for a premier pregame experience at the Erickson Alumni Center, just steps from Milan Puskar Stadium.

With food, drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere for alumni and friends, Hail West Virginia has become a favorite tradition for Mountaineers returning to campus on fall Saturdays. Your membership helps sustain and enhance this experience for future game days.

Greatest Needs Fund

A gift to the Alumni Association’s greatest needs fund provides flexible support that can be used where it is needed most. These funds help sustain important programs, strengthen alumni chapters, and support new initiatives that bring Mountaineers together.

Because alumni engagement continues to evolve, flexible resources allow the organization to respond quickly and ensure that alumni programming remains innovative and meaningful.

Erickson Alumni Center

For alumni returning to Morgantown, the Erickson Alumni Center feels like a home away from home. The building hosts reunions, pregame gatherings, weddings, student events, and countless opportunities for Mountaineers to reconnect with one another and with the University.

Support for the Erickson Alumni Center helps maintain and enhance this special place so it can continue serving as a welcoming hub for Mountaineer gatherings for years to come.

Since the first WVU Day of Giving in 2017, Mountaineers everywhere have stepped up in a big way. Alumni and friends have made tens of thousands of gifts supporting everything from scholarships and academic programs to student experiences and research across the University.

But the impact goes beyond the numbers. Day of Giving is a reminder that the Mountaineer community is bigger than any one campus or graduating class. It stretches across generations and across the country, connecting people who share that same sense of pride in WVU.

On March 25, alumni and friends will once again have the chance to be part of it. Some will give to a scholarship fund, others will support a favorite college or program, and more will simply help spread the word and encourage fellow alumni to get involved.

However you choose to participate, it all adds up. Because when Mountaineers come together, good things happen. And that is something worth showing up for.
