As we move quickly through the fall semester and approach the holiday season, it’s the perfect time to pause and acknowledge what makes our WVU community special. Thank you to every one of our alumni, every student, every friend of WVU, for being part of this Mountaineer family.
We often highlight Homecoming, game days, and major celebrations. But some of the most meaningful moments happen quietly. An alum mentoring a recent graduate, a chapter leader organizing a small gathering, a donor supporting a student, or a friend sharing a memory all help keep our traditions strong. These everyday actions are the foundation of our Mountaineer pride, and remind us to reflect on the countless ways we lift each other up and show our gratitude.
What I’m grateful for
-
Our alumni: You’ve built careers, communities, and families while carrying Mountaineer values with you.
-
Our students: Your curiosity and ambition remind us why this institution matters.
-
Our chapter leaders and volunteers: Your time and energy strengthen our alumni community across the country and around the world.
-
Our donors and supporters: Your generosity creates opportunities for future generations of Mountaineers.
When I walk through the halls of the Erickson Alumni Center or see alumni gathering at chapter events across the country, I’m struck by how many lives are being touched because we carry this WVU connection with us. Whether you graduated decades ago or are just starting your alumni journey, you are part of the legacy of what it means to be a Mountaineer. We see it when alumni support students, step up for their communities, and choose to give back simply because it matters.
A great example of Mountaineers giving back is the Bears and Blankets drive, which supports patients at WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s. Since early summer, alumni chapters nationwide have been collecting new stuffed animals, cozy blankets, and financial contributions to offer comfort to children facing unfamiliar and often overwhelming situations. So far, they’ve gathered more than 730 items and raised an additional $8,500, all dedicated to brightening a child’s day when it’s needed most.
This week, we’re proud to share a newly published feature that highlights how the drive began, how it resonates with our chapters, and the meaningful impact it’s having. If you’d like to get involved, you can visit our website for more information.
The Bears and Blankets drive is just one example of how Mountaineers lift up one another. There are countless ways, big and small, to strengthen our community and carry forward this spirit of gratitude.
How to show your gratitude
-
Share your Mountaineer story. A post, a note, or a quick message can inspire someone else to reconnect with their alma mater.
-
Support a student or recent graduate. Your advice and encouragement go a long way.
-
Volunteer with your chapter. Help plan events, welcome new alumni, or lend your expertise. Find your local chapter to get involved.
-
Stay connected. Attend an alumni event, visit campus, or reach out to an old classmate.
Thank you for your time, your support, and your commitment to WVU. As we enter a season of reflection, let’s continue to show up for one another and strengthen the bonds that define our Mountaineer family.
Let’s Go!
